ABOUT ME

I have a Masters in Integrative Child, Adolescent and Family Therapy and a Diploma in Child Counselling using expressive arts. I have also completed extensive attachment therapy training.  For me, the most crucial facet of working with young people is the therapeutic relationship. When a young person feels heard in an empathic, non-judgemental way, it allows them the freedom to explore their feelings without fear of being judged.

I have worked therapeutically with children, adolescents and families for the last nine years. I have also worked in the child and adolescent team in the NHS and have been the therapy team leader in some schools in London, as well as supervised trainee therapists and provided psycho-education talks and open forums to teachers and parents.

I keep up-to-date with research on principles of child, adolescent and family psychology and mental health, and am dedicated to empathically listening to the young person’s concerns, and helping them learn how to positively approach their mental, emotional and / or behavioural issues.

On a personal level, I am a parent to a young lady who has followed her dream to be a medical doctor and a step parent to a 12-year-old young man aspiring to one day be a vlogger.

MY APPROACH

I am a compassionate, empathetic, psychotherapist, dedicated to providing exceptional care, and creating individualized treatment plans for children, young people and families.

My approach of working is in a holistic manner, working collaboratively with families when required and viewing each young person as unique.I use evidence based models, cognitive behaviour therapy, mindfulness tools, expressive arts and play therapy to explore problems, and the young person’s relationship to their problems, without shaming or blaming in the process, and consequently help them manage stress and difficult feelings, whilst boosting self-esteem and confidence.

I initially meet with parents to understand their concerns and answer any questions. If we decide therapy would be suitable, each session is usually at the same time weekly and lasts for 50 minutes. The number of sessions required depends solely on each child’s needs.

CHILD WORK

As parents, we want our children to thrive and be happy in life. However, for some children, life’s struggles can be difficult. I use evidence-based practices, and mindfulness tools and am passionate about incorporating expressive arts, sand-tray and play – a child’s natural form of expression to help young people connect with their inner world.
My goal in working with children is to help them gain the skills needed to effectively deal with challenges, regulate emotions, as well as learn to express their needs and worries appropriately.
Each child is unique, and the process of therapy occurs at the child’s pace. Therapy is a collaborative process between the child, parents/carers, and the therapist. It helps the child to learn the skills they need to deal with issues and coaches the parents on how to support their child during this process. The number of sessions required depends solely on each child’s needs.

ADOLESCENT THERAPY

Between dealing with the changes going on in one’s body and the social pressures put on adolescents by their peers and society, the teenage years can be a confusing and challenging time of one’s life. Teenagers are in the developmental stage of transition and identity consolidation that may leave them feeling vulnerable and unsure of themselves.

For me, the most important facet of working with young people is the therapeutic relationship. My goal in working with adolescents is to help them gain the skills needed to cope effectively with life’s stressors, manage difficult feelings and to provide a therapeutic space which allows them the freedom to explore their feelings and focus on their hopes and dreams without fear of being judged.

FAMILY WORK

I maintain a particular interest in attachment-focused therapy and am also trained in these principles. My way of working is a collaborative approach between the family, the young person and the therapist, to effectively engage in dialogues that encourage growth and repair and take a step towards positive change.
